China auto sales accounts for 12 percent of global sales

The sales of China autos this year will reach 8.3 million units, accounting for 12 percent of the global sales and by 2015 China may overtake the United States, becoming the biggest auto market in the world, an official from National Information Center (NIC) said yesterday. China became the third largest auto market in 2003 from the seventh largest in 2001. Last year, China overtook Japan to become world second largest auto market.

Chery will make Fiats and Alfas in China

Fiat and Chery Automobile plan a joint venture to build Alfa Romeo and Fiat brand cars in China.Chery is China's top-selling domestic brand with sales of 302,478 units in 2006, according to Automotive Resources Asia.

Tire trade in trouble

China eliminated or cut tax rebates for more than 2,800 export items from July 1 this year, in perhaps its boldest move yet to rein in exports since it joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. The affected items account for 37 percent of all export products, according to the Ministry of Finance.

SALES of low-emission cars in China declined 11.67 percent in the first half of the year, with most consumers valuing social status over the environment. The dip in sales was in stark contrast to general automobile sales figures in China which increased nearly 30 percent on the previous year, reported the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Low-emission car sales dropped 25 percent in Beijing alone, according to Su Hui, head of the Yayuncun automobile market.
